FIRE + ICE
Robert Frost’s poem sees inevitable doom, but for me there’s beauty in Fire and Ice.
It’s the direct visual contrast of these elements, embodied in color, that speaks to me. Deep copper red flowing into turquoise and soft grey. Many pieces in this collection are the product of experimentation with slips and glazing techniques in soda firing. Some pots invoke a fire-ice dichotomy in the pattern, texture or sheen of their surfaces. Red feathering into icy white. Crystals forming a frosty matte. Crackle permeating a soft blue patch.
